Residents from Nyang'iti location of Bobasi Chache Ward in Kisii county have been assured that they will get free, treated mosquito nets from the government to protect their families against malaria during El Nino rains.

Area Chief John Ogega Rasugu also clarified that, two clan elders will be trained to ensure all those registered as beneficiaries get the nets to assure them of protection against malaria-causing mosquitoes during the rains.

Speaking on Monday at Nyang'eni village during a fund drive to offset funeral expenses for the area Assistant Chief James Obchoke Mogo's late mother Mama Mong'ina Mogo, the administrator challenged the area residents to use the nets for intended purposes to ensure they are protected from malaria causing parasites.

Rasugu reminded the residents that those whose details were captured during registration will be given first priority during distribution of the nets and those who were not registered will be considered for the nets after the registered community members have received their share as per the registration data.

Rasugu disclosed that distribution of the nets within Nyang'iti location will be done at Gesure Dispensary, Motonto Dispensary, Gekongo and Nyagesa Primary schools, clarifying that the exercise will be conducted by trained clan elders as the chiefs supervise the exercise to ensure the process is transparent.

"Free distribution of the mosquito nets from the government will be conducted as from October 29 this year in identified dispensaries and centres within the location and it will run for five days," announced Rasugu.
