The Uasin Gishu County government has given a notice to taxis and bodaboda operators in the Eldoret central business district to uphold the new rules or risk prosecution.
The laws passed by the assembly have commenced implementation. All taxis are required to have the yellow line, to park only at designed places and join joining SACCOs from where they can be identified easily and traced if involved in an illegal incident.
Bodabodas on the other hand, are supposed to carry one passenger, have reflector jackets, join SACCOs and operate at specified places.
Speaking in his office Trade and Industrialisation CeC Philip Melly said that the crackdown has started and anyone going contrary to the specified laws will be arrested and arraigned in court.
"We will continue with the exercise of bringing sanity to our transport business which employs many youths. The rules will also ensure cases of insecurity are reduced and make it easy to identify bodabodas and taxis," he said.
He reiterated that there have been many cases of insecurity and accidents involving taxis and bodaboda where lives and property have been lost and urged the operators to uphold the rules. He threatened to throw these operators out of the CBD if misconduct persisted.
He appealed to Uasin Gishu county residents to report any misconduct and promised stern actions will be taken against them.
