Marani OCPD has accused area residents of non-cooperation with the police in a bid to curb the rising insecurity in the area.
The accusation comes barely days after a section of residents from Sensi location, Marani Sub-County complained of negligence from police officers to fight a gang that has been terrorising locals.
Speaking on Wednesday in his office, Bernard Kimwele blamed the residents for not sharing information about criminals in their midst.
“I am frustrated that the police are facing difficulties in addressing the deteriorating insecurity because our people are not willing to share the information that can lead to the arrest of the criminal gangs. Some of them are even housing the criminals,” Kimwele said.
He urged residents to be open and objective when complaining about the police.
“The police officers have raised the issue for a long time now. However, residents are doing exactly the opposite by condemning us without heeding our requests. Fighting insecurity is a collective responsibility and police are there to give reinforcement,” he added.
However, Kimwele reiterated his commitment of ensuring the area is safe for habitation and urged criminals to surrender before the law catches up with them.
