Families in Kiambu County have been urged to report cases of gender-based violence which they may be victims and suffer silently in fear of what could become of them once the offenders find out.

The sub-county gender officer John Kachege said there have been 76 cases of gender-based violence reported to the police in the course of the year and also at the Ministry of Gender.

“I urge couples who have issues between them and are unable to find solutions to seek an amicable way such as talking to a marriage counselor or to the area chief to help in addressing family issues causing violence,” said the officer in his office on Wednesday.

Kachege said couples could create time in order to talk to each and other come up with a solution on how they can resolve the matter at hand.

He said some issues have resulted in the death of spouses and even children.

He cited a case that happened in Kiambu County last year where a man murdered his family in cold blood before committing suicide.

He added that it’s high time for families to resolve their issues and live in harmony.
