Over 300 vulnerable children from low income families in Nyamira County are now set to benefit from free meals, uniforms and medication to enable them access quality education.

According to Metro World Child Country Director Janine Stellatos, the main objective of supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children from low income families aims to help the government promote universal primary education for socio-economically disadvantaged and nutritionally vulnerable children from low income settlements.

She was speaking at Nyamira town on Thursday evening where she said the organisation will spend close to Sh100,000 per week to provide the children from low income homes with school supplies, meals and medicare.

“We took time to establish those families that can receive assistance and now we are ready to see the programme kick off,” she added

The director noted that parents and teachers have given positive feedback about the sponsorship programme whose impact will lead to decreased class absenteeism.

She added that the sponsorship programme aims to promote universal basic education among disadvantaged children.

Stellatos disclosed that the school feeding programme is currently ongoing in Nakuru, and that's why they are looking into expanding wings to Nyamira County.
