Uasin Gishu residents have been cautioned against stigmatising teachers living with HIV/Aids but instead embrace them and make their work easier.

Speaking in her office on Friday the chairperson of the Kenya Network of Positive Teachers (KENEPOTE) in Uasin Gishu, Mary Goreti Boroswa, said that there has been an increase in reported cases of stigmatisation is schools by parents.

She urged parents to embrace them saying that anybody can get infected with the disease. She added that subjecting the teachers to ridicule and hostility is unfair and inhuman reminding them that in some way the parents themselves were also affected.

"If you are not infected you are affected. I urge parents and the community to allow teachers to do their work without hostility, we should not treat them differently," she said.

She urged teacher's living with HIV/Aids to live positively and do their work well.

"I call upon the infected teachers to stay positive by taking their drugs daily regularly without missing and eat a balanced diet," she advised.

Boroswa also urged all teachers to know their HIV status saying that early detection is beneficial and would help them live a normal life

She called upon residents not to stigmatise people living with the virus and instead encourage them to live positively.
