A section of parents in Kisii have urged teachers to call off their strike and go back to work as their unions addresses the salary rise dispute.

Speaking separately on Friday, the parents said officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) are capable of representing the teachers in talks with the national government and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

According to Nancy Onyancha who has two children, one in class eight and another in form four, her children are losing a lot considering that they are candidates who should sit their national exams this third term.

She said it is saddening for parents whose children are still at home instead of attending school.

A spot check showed that most public schools remained closed as teachers kept off classes. For the students who were in school, they were dressed in civilian clothes and in playing in the playground.

According to Isaac Onsongo, a parent in Suneka, they are having a hard time as the national government and the TSC are not doing anything to end the strike.

He said parents should join the teachers in their protests so that the government can find a quick solution to the issue.
