Thika West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jeremiah Gicheru has directed the police officers in Thika to discard all the alcohol nabbed from the public in the last one week.
This is after the residents raised concerns that some of the drinks that were being sold in Thika town secretly could have been stolen from Thika police station where they were stored after being confiscated during an ongoing operation.
The residents were speaking when they destroyed illicit brews in Kiandutu on Tuesday, they claimed that the drinks were being sold in the open at the Thika main stage and no action had been taken against the vendors.
Gicheru reiterated his trusts in his officers and as they were the same people who have been leading the police in conducting the raids in different parts of Thika.
“We have been keeping them as samples but because you have suspected the incidences we will destroy them immediately to purge the doubt. We are dedicated in fighting the brews and second generation drinks and no officer will be involved in such acts as is watch,” the DCC exclaimed.
Following the directive, members of public have loaded the police lorries with over 3,000 cartons and bottles and headed to Kiganjo where they have dumped and destroyed all the alcohol as the authorities watch.
The Commissioner praised the move and called upon the public to ensure they report any incident related to the alcoholic drinks directly to him so as he could action.
