Kisii University is in final preparations to hold the annual cultural week beginning on October 5.

Speaking on Tuesday at the university, Kevin Okwara, the students' union secretary general, said that the committee to prepare for the cultural week is on its final planning phase.

The event that will end on October 11 is set aside for students, staff and locals to interact through culture exchange to enhance peaceful co-existence.

Students from all ethnic backgrounds will showcase their various cultural items and practices as they learn from each other's traditions.

One first year student said: "I suppose this is going to be a great event, though I have never participated."

The theme for this year's cultural week is: culture, education and development. Several students, individually and in groups have already started preparing their performances and exhibitions that they will showcase during the week-long event.

The event will be held at the university's sports ground throughout the week.
