Makueni County Health CeC Kawive Wambua has urged residents of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni Counties to participate in the activities in their counties so as to be well informed about their leaders and their roles in the county.

Speaking in Machakos Town on Tuesday during a public participation forum launch by a non-governmental organisation Mobilization Agency for Paralegal Communities in Africa (MAPACA), Wambua confirmed that a big number of people do not know how county funds are distributed as well as the roles of their leaders on various issues.

He further said that due to ignorance, people have been confusing the leaders' roles thus end up blaming the wrong leaders.

"If you participate in civic education programmes, you will be able to know how to differentiate the roles the different national government and county government leaders have,” said Wambua.

He added, "The truth of the matter is leaders will not embezzle county funds if the public is aware of how things are done."

The CeC also noted that if the residents participated in such forums, they could demand accountability and transparency from their leaders as well as recognise non-performing ones.

He urged the residents to practise public participation by showing up in events meant to help the society in order to keep their governments on toes.
