Lawyers at the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nakuru branch say the ongoing nationwide legal awareness week has registered success.

Speaking at the branch's office on Thursday, Sam Ogutu of Mukite Musangi and Co. Advocates said several Nakuru residents have turned up for the LSK Legal Awareness Week under the theme; 'Fostering National Cohesion Through Legal Aid'.

"The response has been encouraging, we have been receiving many people seeking legal information in diverse matters," said Ogutu.

According to the lawyer, this year's event has had many residents seeking information about land and land succession cases.

"We are offering free legal services in the following categories: land cases, succession, family law, criminal law, employment, accident compensation and refugee protection among others. Most residents want to know more about land cases," said Ogutu.

Ogutu urged more Nakuru residents to visit the offices and get free legal services .

A similar exercise kicked off on Monday in other parts of the country where lawyers are offering pro bono (free) services in LSK branches in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Meru, Machakos and Nakuru among others.

At the Nakuru LSK branch several organisations involved in legal work hare showcasing their services with a view to promoting a better understanding by the public of the role lawyers play in the advancement of legal literacy and advocacy.
