There are many diseases that are likely to break out in Mwembe, Kisii county if the residents do not take the warnings issued to them seriously with regards to throwing waste in rivers.
The Kisii county Community Clinical Officer Kepha King’oina has said that the percentage of the outbreak of waterborne diseases is high since residents have the habit of polluting the water in the rivers around the area.
“It is our mandate as residents to make sure that our environment is always clean,” said King’oina.
Mwembe residents throw waste to the river to evade paying the County Council of Kisii to collect their wastes from their residential areas.
“It is quite useless to keep the money instead of paying garbage collectors. Everyone should consider protecting their health since they are still the ones who will use the water even after the pollution,” added King’oina.
In addition, he said that the county government of Kisii has enough vehicles to collect waste from residential places.
Landlords who have built their houses near river banks have been urged to make sure that their tenants do not pollute the water by providing them with waste containers and ensuring that they pay the County Council to collect the waste.
