Nyamira Senator Kennedy Okongo has issued a 14 days ultimatum to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to pay teachers their September salaries.
Senator Okong’o who is also a member of the education committee in the Senate said TSC should pay teachers their salaries or face legal action.
Speaking on Monday in Nyamira town, Okong'o threatened to sue the teachers' employer for not obeying court orders.
He also said he will ensure TSC officials are summoned by Senate's education committee to explain why teachers have not been paid their September salaries despite a court order.
“The education committee of the Senate is arranging to meet Lydia Nzomo who is the TSC chair and Nancy Macharia to answer why they have not paid teachers their salaries. I am going to sue them in court if they don't pay teachers in the next 14 days,” he said.
He added that, “it is a crime to deny teachers their right, TSC must comply with court orders”.
