Sigona Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mutonya Njenga has hailed churches in his area for offering to help addicts who have quit alcohol terming it as an act of humanity and good leadership.

The MCA who was accompanied by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi to a Sunday service at PCEA Rungiri Church to raise funds for reformed alcoholics, expressed gratitude for the Sigona churches' act to give back to the community.

Njenga said the fight against counterfeit products especially the adulterated liquors can only be tamed if everyone played a role.

More than Sh500,000 was collected during the fundraiser. The money will be used to take care of 60 reformed alcoholics in the church.

The MCA urged other organisations to join hands in the war against brews.

The TNA ward rep said counterfeit products such as alcohol, bathing and washing soaps are on the rise in the region.

He appealed to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) to be vigilant in taming their supply and sale.

His sentiments were echoed by the Wamatangi who cited unemployment as the major source of counterfeits, crime and drug abuse in the county.

He called upon the county government to create jobs for youth in Kiambu.

The senator said he will work with the County Police Commander James Mugera in arresting those involved in the distribution of adulterated products in the region.

He further asked residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative in improving security in the area.

He, however, promised not to relent in the developing the county besides appealing to other leaders to embrace development to foster the county.
