Nakuru Health CeC Mungai Kabii has expressed concern over the alcohol intake by street families after thousand of litres of illicit brew were destroyed.
Kabii said that the ongoing raid had provided them with the opportunity to drink the liquor which was flowing freely on the streets.
He pointed out that the street families were taking advantage of the drinks and could suffer from serious consequences.
“The street families risk dying from too much alcohol intake due to its availability. Many are pocketing the drinks and even taking it from the drainage. We also fear that they might ingest glass and other hazardous things while taking the ‘free’ liquor,” said Kabii.
He was speaking at the KFA roundabout in Nakuru on Tuesday after inspecting the area. On Monday Nakuru East Member of Parliament David Gikaria had torched about one million litres of illicit liquor at that place.
Kabii expressed concern that Nakuru residents could get hurt by the pieces of glasses that littered the area.
“Anyone might get cut or even ingest the glasses. The pieces might fall in the eyes which might lead to serious injuries,” he noted.
Kabii pointed out that they were already rehabilitating the youths who are having withdrawal symptoms.
“We appeal to the residents of Nakuru to ensure that any youth who is suffering from lack of alcohol should be taken to the nearest hospital for treatment,” he said.
