Deputy President William Ruto has called on leaders to help drive the development agenda in their respective counties so as to improve the livelihoods of the people.

According to Ruto, education, infrastructure, healthcare and youth empowerment were the driving forces towards a vibrant and more independent society.

Speaking at Kiptagich Secondary School, Nakuru County during a fundraiser, the DP expressed discontent in leaders who were too much into politics at the expense of development.

“As a leader, always ask yourself; what will I be remembered for when my term elapses? Always strive at ensuring that your people are involved in projects that will make their lives better,” the Deputy President said.

He called on an inclusiveness approach of leadership so as to ensure that everybody takes part in realising the expected goals.

“Let’s unite Kenyans in a manner that will overlook our party affiliations because at the end of the day, upon election, your core agenda as a leader is to preach peace, harmony and cohesion. Dividing our people along political party lines is dangerous,” he noted.

Ruto asked young people to be in the forefront of development matters arguing that it’s only through being involved that the desired experience is realised.

“Don’t just sit there and wait, make an effort, challenge these old people in whatever they do and your ideas will be part of the change we expect in society,” he said.

He called on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to initiate more pro-youth projects to keep young people busy stating  that they will help them shun crime and other unwanted practices.
