Residents of Syokimau Estate in Mavoko on Saturday took part in a road race aimed at fostering unity.
The event manager Joy Wanja told HiviSasa.com that the race also aimed at creating a platform for residents to know one another.
The event was organised by the Syokimau Residents Association in partnership with Patrick Makau Foundation.
"The residents through the association's leadership engaged the MP Patrick Makau's office in planning because he supports such initiatives and development," said Wanja.
According to her, the area being cosmopolitan with lots of new settlements coming up, there is need to promote harmony.
She said more than 200 youth, women and men competed in the 4, 5 and 10 kilometre race.
Wanja said the residents agreed to secure a parcel of land donated by an individual so as to be used as a communal land.
She said the association plans to develop the land by constructing a social centre which includes a youth empowerment centre, a social hall and a stadium.
