Uasin Gishu county assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has criticised residents for the low turn out during the Finance Bill 2015-16 public participation session.
On Monday, Terer said despite the fact the event was advertised in both print and broadcast media, the turnout was disappointing.
The Speaker said it’s the right of all county residents to give their views on the bill so that if they are not in support of it ammendments to be done before it official passing by th members of county Assembly.
"According to the constitution, Kenyans have a right to give their views through public participation and your views are very important for us to know if you are support of the bill or if you need us to do some amendments before passing it. But I am very saddened with the low turnout of. Uasin Gishu residents must get serious since without them showing up, it will mean that that there will be a delay in the allocations. This means that implementation of projects will also delay,” he said.
Speaking at the county hall during the public participation of the Finance Bill, Terer urged residents to always turn up in large numbers when called up for public participation.
He said such forums give them a platform to present their views on how they want their monies spent more so on their preferred projects.
