Thika MP Alice Ng'ang'a has said chiefs from Thika who have failed in the fight against illicit liquor risk going home.
Speaking on Monday at Gatuanyaga Trading Centre, Thika Sub-County during the ongoing crackdown on illicit liquor, Ng'ang'a said the fight against illicit liquor is being hampered by a section of chiefs who are not cooperating with local residents in the eradication of the outlawed brews.
“There are errant chiefs who are hiding illicit liquor and harbouring brewers," said Ng'ang'a.
Ng'ang'a accused the errant chiefs of being behind the proliferation of the lethal liquor.
“Some chiefs have been interdicted over failure to fight illicit liquor. Those chiefs who are not supporting the fight against illicit liquor will go home," she said.
The legislator said the crackdown would continue in all Thika wards and she would deal with chiefs opposed to the operation.
“Some chiefs are acting out of malice and this will not be tolerated. The operation is intended to reform our youth and curb consumption of the illicit liquor and enable them contribute to the growth of the nation," said Ng'ang'a.
The legislator hailed the on going crackdown on illegal alcohol saying it would reform the youth who are addicted to alcohol. She called on the revision of licensing of liquor outlets to ensure only those outlets which have been certified by Kenya Bureau of Standard (Kebs) are legible to get licenses.
She also criticised the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) attacks on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), saying Cord should work with the commission in fostering peace.
