A three-year-old girl on Saturday died after a fire burnt a house in Kisumu’s Nyamasaria slum.
The girl was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out at 4.30am.
Neighbours retrieved the girl's body which was burnt beyond recognition.
A neighbour, Winnie Atieno said she heard screams from the house as the fire erupted.
She said saving the girl was difficult since the fire had engulfed the entire house when she tried to rush inside to save her.
The girl's parents were not at home at the time of the incident.
A witness said her parents had gone to the market when the incident occurred.
Residents managed to put off the fire when the girl was dead.
Her body was taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
The incident happened two weeks after another fire razed down houses in the slum.
Three people were injured during the incident.
