Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been urged to consider posting more male teachers to schools in Mavoko Sub-County to ensure gender equity.
Speaking on Wednesday in his office, Mavoko deputy quality assurance officer, James Kitonyi said that the ratio of women to male teachers in Mavoko schools was astonishing.
"I take this opportunity to urge Teachers Service Commission to post more teachers to Mavoko in a bid to ensure gender equity in our classrooms," said Kitonyi.
Kitonyi said majority of both public primary and secondary schools in the region had only a maximum of five male teachers as opposed to female ones who are in large numbers.
He cited schools like Athi River Primary, Athi River Secondary, Mavoko Primary and Mavoko Secondary schools which have a shortage of male teachers.
According to Kitonyi, discrepancies in gender among teachers compromise children performance thus the need for the situation to be speedily addressed.
The officer said there had been several reported cases from the region where a number of female teachers from various schools were allegedly mistreating the students.
Kitonyi claimed that the high number in female teachers was as a result of corruption within offices concerned with hiring, posting and transferring teachers.
