Bars and restaurant owners operating without licenses risk being barred from operating in the future.
Kiambu County Alcoholic Drinks Control Council Director Michael Kang’ethe has warned all those operating illegally saying those flouting the rules will face the law.
Speaking in Thika over the weekend, Kang’ethe said that no bar has been vetted so far in the suburbs yet the board is receiving information that they are being opened at night.
He said that they have only vetted and licensed bars and restaurants in town centres at the moment and they are yet to vet the rest in other areas.
The vetting is meant to ensure that only legit drinks are being sold.
“We got information that some of these bars are being opened without licenses. We are planning on how to deal with anyone caught. I can assure you it won’t be easy for them when arrested and we can bar them from operating for good," he said.
Kang’ethe further called on the alcoholic control boards in the sub-counties to ensure they go around the areas they operate in and check on those operating before the raids are conducted to seize the law breakers.
He said they are closely monitoring the ones they have licensed to ensure they do not sell banned drinks.
