Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nakuru will conduct special prayers in Ndaragwa at the Wiyumiririe IDP camp this coming weekend for the post-election violence victims.
IDPs national chairman Peter Kariuki said they will be seeking divine intervention regarding their plight.
He said the government has forgotten the plight of the IDPs in the area who were the most affected during the 2007/2008 post poll violence.
“I am appealing to the residents and politicians to show up for our prayers as we bring our plight before God,” he added.
He said it was also important to consider the people whose lives changed dramatically after the chaos that followed the disputed 2007 elections.
He spoke to HiviSasa.com on Monday in Nakuru town where he called on IDPS to unite for the prayers.
“It’s unfortunate that the plight of the IDPs is still being ignored. They still are living in worn out tents and cannot afford a descent meal. Many have succumbed to diseases such as pneumonia, cancer and HIV/Aids. The government has refused to attend to us yet we are living in pathetic conditions,” he added
Kariuki claimed that of the 12, 000 families that were displaced only 4,500 were resettled.
“We are calling on the government to make true it’s promises to ensure that all of us have been fulfilled,” he added
