Witeithie residents have a reason to smile following the installation of five floodlights in a bid to curb insecurity in the area.
Speaking on Wednesday, area MCA Peter Muiriru, said the residents have been asking the county government and security bodies to help them curb insecurity and the floodlights will assist in addressing the issue.
"The rate of crime had gone up as criminals were taking advantage of the darkness but the residents can now be at ease as the floodlights will make it easy to spot criminals," said Muiriru.
Muiriru said the project which was initiated by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo in February will be completed by September as there are still five more floodlights to be installed.
The project is estimated to cost Sh20 million, with a single floodlight costing the county government Sh2 million.
Residents and security personnel in the area lauded the project saying it will enhance security in the area.
Witeithie Administration Police boss Sergeant James Linguli said the installation of the floodlights will enable police in the area to conduct patrols and raids with ease.
He said he will partner with the residents in arresting known criminals in the area in a move to secure the public.
