A woman and her daughter were Thursday morning arraigned before a Kisumu law court for selling illicit liquor.

Magdaline Museno and her daughter Purity Ayuma denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Esther Wendo for the offence allegedly committed on October 25 in Nyawita, Kisumu County.  

They also denied a second count of conducting an illegal business without permission from the relevant authorities. 

They were released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 each with surety of a similar amount pending hearing of the case on January 14 next year. 

The prosecution had earlier requested that the two be remanded for a week in order to nab the husband who had gone into hiding. 

The request was turned down as the magistrate who said there was no proof that the two might hamper arrested of the husband of the woman.    

Peterson Ochieng, the husband, is said to have escaped arrest when police conducted a raid at their homestead on October 25.     

During the raid, undisclosed amount of illicit liquor was confiscated while some ravelers were arrested but later released on bail.
