Kiiva said criminals were conducting their activities in broad day light as police in the area were carrying out illicit brew patrols and called on the chiefs to ensure they supplement the patrols by backing up the officers.

Kiiva said those found either brewing or consuming illicit brew should be arrested and prosecuted.

The commissioner ordered all chiefs and their assistants to step up measures to ensure that illicit brew is controlled in their areas of administration.

Speaking during a security meeting in the area on Wednesday, Kiiva added that bodaboda operators should be closely monitored as some of the criminals are hiding among them and it has been hard to flash them out.

He cautioned a section of parents who indulge in drinking and forget about their parental responsibilities now that children are home due to the teachers' strike, leading to children getting involved in drug abuse and alcoholism.

Kiiva urged all residents in the area to embrace the Nyumba Kumi security policy for their own good.

“The policy was initiated by the government to address security problems in the country and it should be supported wholeheartedly by all residents,” said Kiiva.
