Youth in Kisii County and its environs have been urged to support administrations and various organisations that are campaigning against drug abuse.

During an interview with the county’s youth leader Cosmas Ayieko on Monday, youth should be in the forefront to fight drug abuse so that the county can have a drug- free generation.

Ayieko added that alcohol and drug abuse contribute to violence, child neglect and abuse, shattered relationships and poor job performance.

He said if the vices are shunned, it will ensure a productive county.

The youth leader added that there are many bodies and organisations in the county that are ready to help addicts to quit drugs.

He urged fellow youth to be ambassadors of good hope to those that are in a deep struggle.

“Some youth are currently admitted to rehabilitation centres and we encourage more of the addicts to seek for help without fear because drug abuse has long term effect,” said the youth leader.

He added that youth should know that alcohol has numerous negative effects such as cancers of the liver, breast, colon, throat and mouth and in order to avoid such issues, they should just quit.
