Ahero Ward Representative Maurice Aloo has asked the Kisumu County government give youth polytechnics a face lift.

Aloo cited the Ahero Youth Polytechnic and Kisumu Rotary which he said needed major renovations.

"Kisumu Rotary Polytechnic is run down to the extent that the student population is less than 30. We need to rescue these institutions or the consequences in the future will uncontrollable," said Aloo at the Kisumu county assembly on Wednesday.

He said that Kisumu Rotary Polytechnic has been neglected to the extent that the buildings are collapsing.

"Students lack equipment for their practicals. I had to rush to my home to pick some vehicle spare parts needed by student taking mechanical studies," added the ward rep.

He said that the tutors at the polytechnic use their money to pay electricity bills for the institution.

"Mr Speaker, some of the institutions don't have electricity. Members of staff in the institution say they use their monies to pay electricity bills," said Aloo.

He added:" What is interesting, the students pay school fees and the money is taken by the county government but nothing is ploughed back into the institutions.
