Four Kisii County government officials are undergoing treatment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after being attacked by angry traders at Keroka market Thursday evening.

According to the traders, the county askaris have been harassing them to pay tax yet the tax they pay are not used to uplift the status of the market, which they said, was in a bad state.

One of the traders who identified herself as Christine Magoma blamed Kisii County government of sidelining the market and for not pumping resources to improve its standards.

“The sewerage system is poor, the market is dirty and the county government of Kisii has not done anything to help or improve its status and yet they want to harass us every day,” she said.

Confirming the incident, Kisii County staff officer Darius Mauti said they four were in a stable condition and they look forward to ensuring that the traders involved in the attack are arrested.

One of the county officials who did not want to mentioned said they are always under pressure from the county government to collect taxes from the traders yet no funds are set aside to improve the condition of the market.
