Police in Kisii on Tuesday arrested two men suspected of coordinating car theft businesses in the town and its surroundings after a tip from area residents.

The two, Peter Mosigisi and Dennis Onyango, were apprehended at Jogoo estate in the wee hours of the morning after a stolen vehicle was identified in the nearby garage by the person who claimed ownership.

The garage owners had directed the police to the two whom they positively identified as clients who had brought the vehicle for repair.

“We are told that they are notorious and are said to be the masterminds of car carjacking in the region,” said OCPD Solomon Keragu

"We are happy that they are now in our hands and we must subject them to the due process starting Wednesday. We really thank the garage operators and other residents for this great job,” Keragu added.

The police boss urged witnesses to turn up in large numbers for efficient prosecution of case, besides asking garage operators to be careful with the kind of customers they handle.

“To prosecute the case, we need more witnesses urgently so that justice isn’t delayed. I would also wish to urge garage operators to keen on whom they handle as customers. They will be in a position to identify these criminals to avert the rampant theft,” he said.

During the arrest, an old Toyota pickup was recovered and subsequently taken to Kisii police station for identification before it was positively identified.
