Sixteen motorists were Monday arrested in Kisii town for allegedly going against traffic rules.
Addressing the press in Kisii town, Kisii Central Traffic Base Commander Erick Githinji said most of the drivers who were arrested were drunk and speeding.
Githinji warned drivers against reckless driving during the festival season when many Kenyans were joining their families ahead of January 1.
“I warn any driver going against transport rules. You are not supposed to drive while drunk because you will be putting lives of passengers at risk. So far we have arrested 16 offenders and they will be arraigned in court,” confirmed the base commander.
He challenged the government to repair the Kisii-Keroka highway noting that it jeopardises lives of road users because of potholes.
He said: “Kisii-Keroka highway is in sorry state therefore motorists must be careful because of the potholes. For example, near Kisii High School there are so many potholes and these put lives of users at risk. I ask relevant authorities to repair the road.”
