Police in Naivasha are holding eight young men in connection with a donkey slaughter cartel that was busted this Monday morning in Kiambogo village near Naivasha.
According to businessman Charles Mburu who is a former Nakuru Youth Bunge President and a member of community policing, they received the tipoff after residents noticed suspicious movements in and out of the compound.
“As members of the community policing, we received information that there has been a lot of motorcycle movement in and out of a certain compound in the neighbourhood and we decided to go there,” explained Mburu.
He added that they found 19 donkeys had been slaughtered and another 40 were grazing within the compound.
“The owner of the homestead and his elder son were killed sometimes back in a cattle rustling incidence," said Mburu.
"The only other son has been living with his elderly mother and we have arrested him together with another seven young men,” added Mburu.
In the recent past, a lot of donkeys and cattle have been reported missing in the area and according to Mburu, the young men who had been arrested could have been responsible for the disappearances.
The police are now hunting for those who have been transporting the meat to Nairobi.
