The national government has released 24,000 fertiliser bags which are to be issued to farmers in Thika and Juja Sub-Counties next week. The Thika Sub-County commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru said that the fertilisers will be issued to the two sub counties in the next few days to fully benefit farmers in the county.

“I will be coordinating and collaborating with various agencies and development partners to boost agriculture," Mr. Gicheru said.

He spoke at Witeithie area in Juja Sub-County on Friday when he met with the area local administrators to deliberate on how to issue out the fertilisers to the farmers.

He added that due to the vulnerability of the region since they have not been receiving enough rainfall, farmers should start planting drought resistance crops so as to sustain their families when the harvests are not very pleasing in areas like Kalimoni which are semi-arid.

He further urged them to embrace the use of fertiliser and certified seeds as well as the application of pesticides and livestock husbandry for economical profits.
