Barely five months after the President Kenyatta’s directive to get rid of the illicit brews and second generation alcoholic drinks, the unwanted alcohol is slowly resurfacing.

According to the Witeithie ward administrator James Gichuru, Juja, although not affected like before, has experienced the re-emergence of the illegal drinks.

Gichuru has raised a red flag over the return of the brews in Juja sub-county.

He said that the members of public have been decrying the return of the drinks to him through phone calls and text messages and due to the technicality of the matter; they couldn’t have raided the new dens like before as the brewers have found new ways of hiding.

He said that they have had regular meetings with the local administration in his area and Juja sub-county too and have resolved to continue the fight against the brews.

“The people should know that the fight against the illicit brews is still at force and that we will continue with the raids in the deep hiding dens for the brewers and criminals. Let’s cooperate and end this killer substance that has been claiming our youth and relatives lives,” Gichuru said.

He added that the Kiambu County Alcoholic and Beverages Act 2015 is still at force and cautioned the provincial administration against jeopardizing the fight against the menace. He said that they have been working closely with the National government officials in the grassroots in intensifying the fights.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday from his office in Thika town, Gichuru called upon the Witeithie residents to support him in the fight against the brews in the area popularly known for the brewing of cheap alcohol.

He lauded a section of the residents who have been working undercover for the security personnel in giving information on the brewing and brewing dens.
