The Nakuru County government has ordered the revocation of operating licences of any business person found guilty of selling alcohol and other drug substances to students and any other person below the age of 18 years.

This is a directive by county governor Kinuthia Mbugua, who regretted that young, innocent people were being led into addiction by individuals out to misuse them for personal reasons.

Speaking in Nakuru town Sunday evening, Mbugua tasked the recently appointed sub county alcohol licensing committees to fast track the directive as a matter of urgency.

“It is our responsibility to safe guard the society and taking care of our youthful generation that has become unmanageable due to drug abuse and alcoholism, it must come to an end,” he warned.

The governor said that it had come to their attention that some business persons were secretly operating illicit brew backstreet dens where young people visited for their quick pickups behind the backs of their parents and other authorities.

In what the governor suspects to be a clash of ideas in the fight against these brews, he called on all relevant authorities to read from one script to achieve the general goal of nurturing a sober generation.

“It’s up to station commanders, both AP and police to liaise with chiefs, their assistants, villages and other security details at the local level to help streamline free flow of information regarding where and why the business is still thriving under cover,” the governor stated.

The sub county alcohol licencing boards are supposed to scrutinise all applicants well to ensure that ignorant and traders with questionable business back grounds don’t get operating licences.
