Kiambu Women Representative Annah Nyokabi has urged women to form groups and apply for the Affirmative Action Social Development Fund (AASDF).

Speaking at Blue Post hotel in Thika during a sensitisation forum on the fund on Monday, Nyokabi said the funds were set aside to empower women through business and other socio-economic projects.

The women representative stated that women have a high chance to get the funds if they form groups and develop good business ideas.

“Women should feel encouraged to form groups and present their business ideas so that we can fund them,” she said.

Nyokabi said forums to sensitise women about the affirmative action funds are being carried out across Kiambu.

“We intend to educate and also train women in areas of business so that they can be empowered socio-economically,” she said.

The women rep also challenged women in Kiambu to be active and make their voices heard.

She observed that there are various programmes being implemented by the national and county government aimed at empowering women and other marginalised groups.

Nyokabi also asked women to utilise the opportunities given to them so that they can be able to contribute to development.

The affirmative action fund was launched by the national government last year with the aim of empowering women through socio-economic projects.

The kitty is being handled and managed by women representatives across the country.
