Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has called on for financial management education of different women and youth groups before funding them.

According to Arama, some groups were misusing the funds because of lacking the relevant knowledge on how to utilise the funds productively.

Speaking to the press in Nakuru town over the weekend, the Town West legislature noted that through education, the society would be positively transformed and inspired so as to help the government fight the unemployment menace.

“In my constituency, I have always ensured that different groups that apply for funding are equipped with the relevant investment and entrepreneurship knowledge before being considered and so far, it has yielded positive results because the monies are being used on specific projects,” he said.

Arama further asked more groups to come forth and apply for the loans instead of idling, engaging in crime and drug abuse or venturing into the bodaboda business he describes as flooded.

He called on parents to help in mentoring their children in order to breed a sober society ready to utilise available resources in making the society a better place.

“We are trying to bring cohesion in Nakuru by using the funds which are available at our disposal as leaders to make our youth and women independent, but also we want parents out there to help instill good morals and the fighting spirits in our future generation,” he added.

More than 150 women and youth groups have benefited to both Uwezo and Youth Enterprise funds in the present financial year with the number expected to increase in subsequent years as sensitisation programs increase.
