Kiambu town residents have reacted angrily to a highly publicised house party dubbed ‘Project X’ which was to take place in Kileleshwa, Nairobi at the weekend.
The residents want the government to stop the planned party, arrest and prosecute the organisers.
Speaking on Monday, the residents said that the party theme and activities goes against established morals and values.
Stephen Kiloki, a resident said that young people are being lured into bad activities warning that the moral fabric of the society is at risk if such behaviour is not condemned and action taken against predators.
“It is so unfortunate that our young people are easily being lured into immorality as the society watches,” he said.
Kiloki said that it is time the government, religious leaders and agents of change took their roles seriously in shaping the behaviour of the young generation.
“Our youthful generation is at risk if we continue to keep quiet and fail to guide them on good morals,” said Raphael Mburu, a youth coordinator in Kiambu constituency.
Mburu blamed parents and guardians for failing to shape the behavior of their sons and daughter.
“It is time as a society we thought of coming up with ways of nurturing good morals to our youths or else we will lose them to immorality and other bad behaviour,” he said.
However, a section of youths in Kiambu Town said there is no problem with the party.
“We don’t know why people are complaining and condemning the Project X party yet such parties take place every day in our cities,” said a youth who sought to remain anonymous for fear of condemned.
On Sunday ODM nominated MP Isaac Mwaura condemned the planned Project X party asking the police to arrest the organisers and stop the party from taking place.
“I have written to the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet asking him to stop the party from taking place,” said Mwaura after attending a church service at kambui PCEA church in Ruiru.
On Monday, the Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB) said that the planned party has been banned.
KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua while speaking to the press at the Board offices in Nairobi warned Kenyans against attending the party adding that police are pursuing the organisers.
Mutua said that police have linked the party to youth radicalization, drug abuse and acts of bestiality.
