The filth that has defined Kaptembwa estate over the years has been attributed to individuals who dispose waste irresponsibly.

Stakeholders and residents have now appealed to the ministry of health to arrest and prosecute all those who are found to be engaging in the act.

Speaking Tuesday, Lameck Mwangi, a resident and also a Boresha mazingira activist, said Kaptembwa estate had found itself in the sad predicament thanks to a section of its inhabitants who have completely refused to shape up.

"We have a clique of residents who have flatly refused that hygiene is not their interests. It is because of such individuals that this estate has now become the butt of jokes for our neighbours in other estates. However, we need the county ministry of health to rein them in," he said.

Alfred Opiyo, a resident, on his part said draconian by-laws should be put in place if such errant individuals are to be contained.

He proposed arrest and a hefty fine or two years behind bars for offenders.

The estate was among the worst hit by the cholera mid last year and it accounted for over 30 patients who were diagnosed and treated over cholera related complications.
