An aspiring women representative from Naira County has warned public servants from engaging in political related activities in the name of serving their incumbents.

Ms Annet Onsando confirmed having written to County Public Service Board (CPSB) to investigate a number of public servants who she alleged of engaging in political activities in the grassroots despite being against the rule of law.

Onsando who was speaking at Barabu’s Nyansiongo Township on Tuesday urged residents to share information to authorities to ensure those who are culpable are subjected to disciplinary proceedings.

“The Public Service Act is clear and I want to reiterate that as a law abiding citizen, I will report any individual in public service who dares participate in politics. I have already singled out a number of them who are being used as puppets to drive political agenda on behalf of some politicians and their names are under investigations,” she said.

According to her, most elected members of county assembly and parliament were fond of committing the civil servants to represent them in political platforms and harambees.

“This isn’t guess work. We have seen MCAs and MPs using their confidants who are public servants in carrying out campaigns. We cannot allow bridge of law because they (public servants) should use their time in serving people and not engaging in politics,” she added.

She also challenged the leadership of Nyamira county government to conduct a daily physical count to ensure all officials are in their work places.

“Another way of combating this menace is maybe by tasking the county government to ensure it takes a roll call daily and take an action against those who miss work to serve their masters at local areas in political functions,” Osando said.
