An aspiring MP from Borabu constituency now wants IEBC to suspend ongoing voter registration in parts of the constituency claiming that some of his rivals were involved in voter trafficking from neighboring constituencies to increase their numbers ahead of 2017 polls.
Dr Nyandoro Kambi, who was addressing hundreds of his supporters in Magura on Wednesday, said IEBC was being misused by a number of aspirants who he threatened to unmask if the exercise wasn’t halted to register a host of people who are not residents of the constituency.
He said the exercise was not fair and questioned the integrity of trafficking voters from neighboring constitutes to make a decision for Borabu people.
“IEBC must stop the ongoing voter registration till they explain to us why some aspirants are trafficking people who are outsiders of the constituency and registrar them as voters. This constituency has its residents who should make decisions during elections and I am ready to give evidence and even the name of culprits,” he said.
Nyandoro said voters from Kitutu Masaba and West Mugirango were lured to register in Borabu by some aspirants on condition they would be paid hefty amount of money.
“In fact, most of those being registered are actually transferring from other places to Borabu even though they don’t live in our constituency. They are being paid and that is unacceptable,” he said.
He said IEBC had been reduced to an element of promoting impunity in the region and said he will write to the national chairman to seek for an explanation.
“Elections are only fair when natives are given a chance to choose their own leaders and not outsiders who don’t stay around. The only people with privileges are those who are not original inhabitants of this place but have since started staying within the constituency and I will write to the national chair, to demand an explanation,” he said.
He challenged Nyamira based IEBC to produce a list of those who registered mostly recently to ascertain his claims that they were not residents of the region but will only be used to participate in the 2017 polls.
