Chiefs in parts of Nakuru West who are fond of taking bribes from locals have been warned to desist from the vice or face arrest.

Area Police Boss Patrick Makau fired the warning on Monday in Kaptembwa and told ordered chiefs who had an affinity for bribes to either shape up or risk being prosecuted.

Makau further urged locals to avoid giving bribes to such chiefs and instead ask for what is rightfully theirs. He added that it was the role of the chiefs to assist their subjects and therefore, demanding for a bribe was totally uncalled for.

"As a chief you should know that you are entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the welfare of your subject so are you not robbing them if you begin to ask for favors from them?" he queried.

The police boss also urged locals especially in the semi-urban estates such as Kaptembwa, Rhonda and Mbaruk to partner with police officers in boosting security in the said localities and told them to equally embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative.

"It is for your own good that you develop cordial relationships with police officers so that we can weed out crime in our midst. But don't also forget to know your neighbour because doing so could be detrimental to your own safety," he advised.
