Pastoralists from Maasai community have been urged to be careful with their herds whenever they move them in Mavoko to avoid livestock - wild life conflict.
Speaking to this writer in Athi River town on Wednesday, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau said it was important for the pastoralists to avoid moving their livestock to areas dominated by wild animals.
"I sympathise with our brothers and sisters from the neighboring Kajiado County, they keep moving their livestock without taking precaution that some of the areas they drive them to are dominated by wildlife," said Makau.
Makau said it was pointless for the herders to go around grazing in the areas only for their livestock to be attacked by wild animals.
He argued that even though there were still problems of pasture in most parts of Kajiado County, prompting the residents to seek refuge with their livestock in Mavoko, they needed to be cautious of the dangers they exposed both their cattle and themselves to.
Makau said the region's wild life should not be interfered with adding they are in segregated areas away from human settlement hence it was unfair for certain individuals from the Maasai community to drive their livestock where the wildlife are.
