Boda boda operators have complained of poor roads due to the ongoing rains, saying it is affecting their business.
Speaking at DC on Tuesday, the operators said they are incurring great losses.
“Our businesses have collapsed. Every place in this country, boda boda operators make a lot of money during the rainy season. They sometimes hike their fares. However, this is not what we Kibera motorists enjoy. It is hard to carry a passenger due to the poor state of the roads,” said Michael Okumu.
Another motorist, Abraham Shikanga said the muddy roads are a major hindrance to their trade.
“The roads are muddy and the motorcycles keep on sliding. We cannot risk carrying a passenger in this rainy season because they might fall down,’’ added Shikanga.
Adem Mkhwana who has been in the business for five years said the rains have been a major reason for many of his colleagues quitting the job.
“My colleagues have quit this business since they think the rains come with a lot of cold which could lead to pneumonia.
Mkhwana now has appealed to Nairobi county government to pour murram on the roads to ease movement especially during the wet season.
