Police in Nyamira county have cautioned liquor sellers against selling alcohol before and after the stipulated hours while masking themselves as restaurants.

Nyamira police boss Rico Ngare said that during their regular crackdown on illicit brews on Wednesday evening they had come across liquor being sold even during morning hours while the sellers claimed that they were restaurants.

He cautioned those operating as restaurants and permitted by the law to strictly sell alcohol during the day that they should not sell more than two bottles to a single person.

“We carried a crackdown few hours before five and we managed to arrest more than 10 bar operators who were selling liquor before time,” he added.

As for those who operate under bars, they should follow the laws and sell their drinks during authorized time in order to avoid getting into the wrong side of the law.

He said that police officers would not relent in the enforcement of the law with regards to those who violate the constitution.

Rico added that they were working hand in hand with the chiefs going round the county and even homesteads in order to eradicate the problem of illicit brews and excessive drunkenness as a whole.

He asked people not to be greedy by selling alcohol all through and instead follow the law and be their brothers’ keepers so that most of their valuable time was spent on development of the area and not only on leisure.

He said that those arrested will be arraigned in court later on.
