With a section of leaders within the ranks in Nakuru expressing varied opinion over claims that the proscribed Mungiki sect is behind a series of deaths targeting the business community in Nakuru, police have now called for patience as investigations were underway to ascertain the allegations.

County Police Commander Hassan Barua also accused some leaders of using the claims to gain political mileage.

Speaking in Nakuru town on Monday, Barua said the issue risks plunging the county into a security dilemma ahead of the 2017 polls if it is not well managed.

"Our leaders should not lead to undesired speculations because we are still investigating the claims, let them be patient and allow us to complete our investigations," he said.

This comes barely a week after MPs David Gikaria (Nakuru Town West) and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri claimed Mungiki was secretly regrouping in Nakuru.

The county police boss is set to convene a high profile security meeting before the week ends before tabling a report to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on the steps taken to solve the Mungiki puzzle.
