Nakuru County assembly Speaker Susan Kihika has called on leaders to support each other with the aim of improving living standards of the electorate.

Speaking in Menengai on Saturday during a funds drive in aid of embattled area MCA Lucy Kihumba whose house was torched by unknown people, she regretted that some leaders were openly attacking each other at the expense of the electorate who expect a lot from them.

“Leadership is all about sharing ideas for the sake of development which is the core reason why all of us are in office. We were elected to serve, not to showcase our personal differences,” she advised.

Kihika called on the police to speed up investigations into the incident and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

“You can imagine of the mental torment Kihumba and her family underwent because of individuals who are still enjoying their lives in our midst. Our officers should ensure that they are arrested so that they take responsibility for their actions,” she said.

She regretted earlier reports claiming that the attack might have been politically instigated, saying such calibre of leaders should never find space in this modern world.

“I cannot imagine how any straight thinking leader can do such a thing because of political differences. Let’s not speculate because the matter is with the police,” she added.

The Menengai West MCA’s home was reduced to ashes two months ago after arsonists raided her home at night. No one was injured but property estimated to be worth Sh50 million was destroyed.
