2 children, an 8-year old girl and a 10-year old boy on Wednesday afternoon were attacked by a swarm of bees in Kitakani village, Ikombe location, Yatta sub county leaving them with serious injuries which are being nursed in Mutitu General Hospital.

The father of the 2 said that he did understand what disturbed the bees out of their hive which was just a few meters away from the homestead.

The area chief Christin Kalunda said that the bees had also killed a donkey and 2 goats which were tethered and grazing nearby.

"Bee attacks have become common around this area considering the frequent cases in the recent past for example the 2 girls who were left in critical condition after bees attacked them last week still in Kitakani village," said Chief Kalunda.

The chief has called upon the county government to embark on educating bee farmers on how to handle them so as to avoid such incidents in the future. The villagers however took immediate action on Wednesday night and burnt the hive, chasing away all the bees which had proved to be very wild.
