Kisii town and surroundings were on Monday hit by a total power blackout that lasted the whole day. This was after the Kenya Power Company gave a notice on the same.
Businesses especially the ones that rely on electricity were affected and remained closed. Such businesses included the barber shops and saloons; the major business and service points like the banks had to use alternative power sources like the generators in order to serve their customers.
The blackout was allegedly caused because the Kenya Power Company was replacing the old transformers and poles. They replaced the wooden poles to concrete one as the rains had made them weak.
"We want to change these small transformers to big one for better services. Tomorrow the the black out may resume," a Kenya power worker who preferred not to reveal his identity to this Hivisasa writer said.
The maintenance was completed by 7.30pm and the power was back in the affected areas.
