Boda boda operators in Kibera have been urged to adhere to traffic rules to curb accidents this festive season.
Speaking on Tuesday morning at Laini Saba boda boda stage, Geoffrey Bichobe, the stage secretary, urged his fellow riders to follow road safety regulations to avoid motorcycle accidents.
“It is risking the lives of our passengers and our own life when we ride at high speeds. As riders, we should ensure we drive safely to avoid accidents as we are all prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations,” said Bichobe.
“We want to reduce motorcycle accidents and therefore if you are a rider in this area, you should be required to ride at the recommended speed. If you are found speeding you will face the full force of the law when the police catch up with you. Also, if you are not trained, you should receive training and get relevant certificates,” he added.
On the other hand, he warned riders against drinking and riding.
“Riding when drunk has become a tendency to most riders who believe they do it best when drunk. It is illegal and risking life to ride while drunk. If any boda boda is found drunk during working hours be it at night or during the day, he will be penalised,” the secretary concluded.
